Intensive Care Unit
The Intensive Care Unit is a 9-bed unit that provides intensive care services by highly skilled and trained nursing personnel. A multi-disciplinary approach is used to individualize your care. This unit is located on the 2nd floor of the south wing.

Cardiovascular Unit
The Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) is a unit with 9 beds that care for the open-heart patient. The CVU cares for patients from admission to discharge. This model of care is known as the Cardiac Universal Bed which provides one stop care for the patient. The patient is admitted immediately after having open-heart surgery and recovers in one unit until discharge. The benefits of providing the universal bed concept are:
- Decreased length of stay due to the enhanced patient care focus:
- There is a more effective monitoring, rapid identification and prompt resolution of postoperative complications.
- Nurses are able to detect subtle changes in the patient's condition due to:
- Continuity in patient assignments;
- Critical care orientation and skill level of the nurses;
- Optimal nurse-patient ratios that are adjusted for patient severity - not patient location.
- Consistent nurse - patient assignments promote better patient/family education and earlier discharge preparation.
- The one stop setting promotes a dedicated team and better trust between physicians and nurses. This leads to a collaborative approach to treatment.
- Research has shown that patients fare better in a collaborative care environment.

Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
The Cardiovascular Operating Rooms (CVOR) is a 2-room unit that is encompassed in our state-of-the-art surgical suite. The Good Samaritan Health System has incorporated sophisticated technology with a highly skilled and trained team of professionals all dedicated to delivering high quality patient care to help our patients achieve the best outcomes possible. In addition to the Cardiac surgeon, our Open-heart surgery team consists of specially trained Anesthesia providers, Nurses, Technicians and Perfusionists.
The procedures that we offer include, but are not limited to, Coronary Artery Bypass (CABG) using on and off pump techniques, Valve Repair and Replacement, Aortic procedures including the Thoracic aorta and other Thoracic and peripheral vascular procedures.
We also use Minimally Invasive Vein Harvesting Techniques which result in fewer wound complications, decrease in days to ambulation and can decrease total length of stay.
With the addition of the CVOR and the Open Heart Surgical Team, we are now able to provide Open Heart Surgical Intervention and Thoracic Surgery here at the Good Samaritan Hospital, close to home.

Cardiac Catheterization Lab
The Cardiac Catheterization Lab provides diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular services. Diagnostic catheterizations are performed to diagnose CAD (Coronary Artery Disease), heart disease, heart function, and determine whether additional treatment is necessary. We provide interventional services such as PTCA's (Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty), PCI's (Percutaneous Coronary Interventions), stenting, IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound), peripheral vascular interventions and other state of the art procedures. The cath lab is available 24/7 and monitors door to balloon time to stay within the 90 minute benchmark. In addition, we use the latest technology to perform these services; Drug Eluting Stents, IVUS, flat panel imaging technology, and Rotablator to name a few. The Cath Lab is located on the ground floor of the south building. We provide two digital procedure labs, a 12 bed prep/recovery area, and a private waiting area from families.

Electrophysiology (EP) Lab
Our new EP lab opened in June 2008. It is located in the cath lab suite area on the ground floor of the south wing. This lab features a dedicated EP team including two EP physicians. The new lab boasts the latest technology to peform EP procedures. Jet ventilation is also performed by anethesia for ablations.

3 South
3 South is a 32-bed Telemetry unit capable of providing patients with continuous cardiac monitoring. The patient population served is predominately adult and geriatric. The majority of patients are of such nature that cardiac monitoring is essential to positive patient outcomes. The types of diagnoses typically seen include, but are not limited to: rule-out MI, congestive heart failure (CHF), angina, irregular heart rhythms, respiratory dysfunction, and valvular dysfunction.

Non-Invasive Cardiology
Our Diagnostic Services, known as the Non-Invasive Cardiology Services (NICS), is located on the ground floor of the hospital. Registered or certified cardiovascular technicians provide 12 lead EKG, monitored stress testing, nuclear cardiac testing, EEG, echocardiography (ECHO), Transesophageal ECHO, Stress ECHO, and tilt table testing. Accredited in 2007 by the Intersocietal Commission for Echocardiography Labs (ICAEL), NICS staff provide services to in-house patients, physician offices, surgery centers, and area hospitals. All testing requires a written order from a physician. EKG's are done on a walk-in basis and all other testing is done by appointment only. NICS hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p. m.; Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. NICS is adjacent to the cath lab on the ground floor of the south building.

Cardiac Rehabilitation
The Cardiac Rehabilitation team offers inpatient and outpatient programs for patients with heart disease and individuals at risk for developing heart disease. The inpatient program includes information regarding cardiovascular disease risk factors and self-care, educational preparation for cardiac testing or treatment, inpatient exercise following open-heart surgery and post-hospitalization follow-up contact.
Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation begins with physician-referred telemetry monitored exercise sessions under the supervision of registered nurses and exercise physiologists. In addition to our Cardiac Rehab program, a short-term (12-week) Medical Fitness Program is also offered for individuals completing outpatient cardiac rehab or for those individuals who have diagnoses not in need of monitored exercise therapy. This program is designed to provide exercise therapy and risk-reduction management for the cardiac patient as well as the individual with chronic disease and/or disability.
Patients exercise in the well-equipped Samuel and Sadie Ostrow Cardiac Rehabilitation Center located on the ground floor of The Good Samaritan Hospital. In addition to exercise therapy, educational sessions are offered, which include: Heart Healthy Nutrition, Lifetime Fitness, Stress Management for Your Heart and Understanding Heart Disease.
