Respiratory Care at Good Samaritan

General and Critical Care Therapeutic Services
Respiratory services provide a full range of therapeutic services from arterial blood gas analysis to ventilator management with the use of the latest available equipment. Protocols are also utilized, allowing our therapists to better serve our patients and make optimal use of their skills and knowledge. The department provides services to the full range of patient ages and all levels of patient care.

Diagnostic Services
Pulmonary Function Studies are one of the primary ways to screen for pulmonary disease, to evaluate surgical risk, to assess disease progression, to assist in the determination of pulmonary disability, and modify the therapeutic approach to patient care.

Bronchoscopy may be used for both therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. The therapeutic uses of bronchoscopy include removal of foreign objects, aspiration of secretions, and endobronchial surgery. Diagnostic testing includes biopsy, obtaining sputum samples for culture, and quantification of structural airway changes.

Arterial Blood Gas analysis is one of the important tests in evaluating the degree of respiratory distress and in determining the level of certain therapies, such as oxygen therapy.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is provided to patients with respiratory disorders that would benefit from education in medication use, management of activities of daily living, the use of supplemental oxygen, and those that can benefit from an exercise program.
