The Good Samaritan Hospital has selected Beers and Hoffman, Ltd., as architect and Arthur Funk and Sons, Inc., as construction manager for the Sechler Family Cancer Center project. Good Samaritan plans to break ground for construction this fall and will open the center towards the end of 2015.
“The Sechler Family Cancer Center will positively impact the lives of cancer patients in the Lebanon community by providing the county’s only source for integrated cancer care,” said Good Samaritan Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer Jacquelyn Gould MS, RN. “The 21,000 square foot, single story center will provide chemotherapy, infusion therapy and the latest radiation treatment in one location. The facility will also house physician offices, laboratory services, a pharmacy, social worker, dietician, and spiritual center to provide added convenience for patients.”
With a typical cancer patient requiring an average of 80 visits to cover a variety of treatment and diagnosis services, integrated cancer centers have been determined by industry experts to be the best option for reducing unnecessary travel and appointments for patients while also enabling a higher-level of collaboration with physicians and clinical teams.
“In addition to establishing Lebanon County’s first integrated cancer center, Good Samaritan also will bring access to clinical trials though a partnership with a tertiary care center,” Gould said. “Patients will be able to participate in clinical trials, which will benefit them and future cancer patients. In addition, the quality of care will be enhanced as the partnership will allow Good Samaritan to share the most up-to-date thinking and medical protocols with clinical staff.”
In addition to offering access to a new model for integrated cancer care, the cancer center project will create many temporary construction jobs and 75 well-paying permanent jobs. The center is expected to have an annual $3 million impact on the regional economy.
