Vascular Center Services
As the home
of Lebanon County’s only heart and vascular center, the Good Samaritan Health
System Cardiac & Vascular Center offers a total program of cardiovascular
care. Our professionals bring valuable experience and expertise to our cardiac,
vascular, cardiology and thoracic programs, enabling the Good Samaritan Cardiac
& Vascular Center to provide the best care possible. Our program has earned
the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines- Heart Failure Award,
and a three star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, both prestigious
national awards of excellence. These awards are a testament to our commitment to
providing world class heart care close to home.
Mission Statement:
The Good
Samaritan Hospital provides personalized services, clinical excellence and
coordinated seamless cardiac and vascular care that meets community
needs.
Vision Statement:
The Good
Samaritan Hospital will be recognized as a leader of advanced cardiac and
vascular care in Central Pennsylvania.
Services:
Electrophysiology
New to the Cardiac
& Vascular Center are Electrophysiology services. Electrophysiology studies
the heart’s electrical activities and pathways. This can help to diagnose and
treat abnormal heart rhythms.
Open Heart
Surgery
Our experienced surgeons and knowledgeable surgical team
provide outstanding care for patients requiring heart surgery including coronary
artery bypass and aortic aneurysm surgery.
We provide the latest techniques, including off-pump
coronary artery bypass, surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation, and abdominal
aortic aneurysm stenting.
Valve
Surgery
Heart valve surgery for valve disease is available at the
Cardiac & Vascular Center.
Valve surgeries available include:
-
Mitral valve repair or replacement
-
Placement of rings to support mitral
valve
-
Tricuspid valve repair
-
Aortic valve replacement
Valve choices include mechanical or tissue valves of
pig or cow origin.
Thoracic
Surgery
Thoracic surgery includes treatment of diseases affecting
the chest wall, lungs and mediastinum. These procedures include:
-
Treatment of chest wall tumors
-
Treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax

Surgery for lung cancer staging and
resection

Resection of lung for other
diseases
We are proud to provide both traditional and
minimally invasive techniques for our operative interventions.
Interventional Cardiology
A cardiac
catheterization is generally done when there is a blood vessel blockage. The
advanced technology of our digital procedure labs enables our interventional
cardiologists to perform life saving interventional cardiac care.
These
interventions include:
-
Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty
(PTCA)
-
Percutaneous Coronary Interventions
(PCI)
-
Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS)
-
Rotablator
-
Arthrectomy
In most cases angioplasty is performed with
stenting.
The Cardiac & Vascular Center utilizes the latest flat panel
imaging technology to perform these procedures.
Vascular
Surgery
Our goal is to provide comprehensive cardiovascular care,
therefore we also treat disorders of the circulatory system.
Vascular procedures available include:
-
Cartoid endarterectomy
-
Peripheral artery bypass
-
Resection of aneurysms of the aorta
(AAA)
-
Peripheral artery
angioplasty
The
Universal Bed
The Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) strives to provide
education, support and quality medical care from admission to discharge. This
is accomplished through the use of the “Universal Bed.” Following cardiovascular
surgery, patients are admitted to CVU and will remain there until discharge with
the same team of cardiac trained nurses and staff caring for them throughout
their recovery. This model of care improves patient satisfaction and
outcomes.
