Be A Healthcare Professional Program

The Good Samaritan Health System has instituted the Be A Healthcare Professional Program to support and encourage employees who are enrolled in, or plan to enroll in, an Associate Degree program to become a Registered Nurse or Respiratory Therapist. Employees must meet the eligibility requirements, agree to work for the health system while attending school, and commit to work for the health system after graduation.

To be eligible an employee must:

  1. Be accepted into an accredited Associate Degree Nursing or Respiratory Therapy Program.
  2. Have completed six (6) months of satisfactory full-time or regular part-time employment.
  3. Be enrolled full-time in the clinical portion of an accredited program.
  4. Maintain a C or better grade point average.
  5. Work a minimum of 40 hours per pay period (.5 FTE status).
  6. Complete a Be A Healthcare Professional Application Form and obtain the approval of the Department Manager prior to enrollment.
  7. Not be in the disciplinary process at the current time.
  8. Work with supervisor to have flexible scheduling.
  9. Meet with the Educational Assistance Committee. 
  10. Course of education must be uninterrupted.



An employee qualifying under this program will be eligible for the following benefits:

  1. Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, and Vision Insurance at the full-time rate.
  2. Tuition reimbursement
  3. Accrue part-time benefits

After Graduation:

  • A three-year commitment in an appropriate full-time or part-time position with the GSHS is required for full repayment.
  • If an employee fails to compete his or her three-year commitment, full payment of one-third (1/3) for every year remaining.
