Annual Salary: The combined salary/housing allowance for the 2011-2012 academic year through Penn State University is: 

  • First Year Residents - $49,000 
  • Second Year Residents - $50,595
  • Third Year Residents - $52,230
Insurance: Malpractice Insurance, Disability Insurance and Group Term Life Insurance is provided for you. Health Insurance is provided through Highmark Blue Shield for you and your family. Dental and Vision Insurance is also provided.

Paid Time Off: 20 working days per year for vacation/sick leave; six paid Holidays per year (unless clinical obligations preclude this).

Sick Children: When your child is ill, nurses in the Good Samaritan Hospital Pediatric team are available, pending occupancy, for a nominal fee to care for your sick child while you attend to your residency duties.

Educational Fund: Reimbursement for conferences/travel, books, computer hardware and software in the amount of $1,000 allowance per year.

Uniforms: Four long lab coats are provided for you at no cost.

Meal Tickets: Provided when on call.

Prescriptions: May be purchased for resident and family at reduced cost at the Hershey Medical Center Pharmacy.

Access to University Fitness Center.

Employee Discounts on Wireless Telephone Service, etc.

Maternity/Paternity Leave: Paid maternity leave is available in the form of accrued vacation and sick leave within a one year period. In addition, four weeks of unpaid absence is also allowed. Paternity leave is available using any accrued vacation and sick leave.
