CEO Welcome

Dear Prospective Residency Applicant,

As President & Chief Executive Officer of the Good Samaritan Health System, I am pleased to express my heartfelt support for our Family & Community Medicine Residency Program. I join Dr. Aitken, the faculty, residents and staff in inviting you to earnestly consider the benefits that our program and hospital have to offer you.

The Good Samaritan Hospital is a non-sectarian, not-for-profit 196-bed community hospital that cares for a community of nearly 120,000 people. We offer the most up-to-date acute care services to patients, including a newly expanded operating room and invasive cardiology suite and an enlarged and enhanced emergency department where we see almost 50,000 people per year. We also offer comprehensive rehabilitative and preventive health services. The hospital is financially stable with a secure long-range plan to ensure its continued prosperity.

The program's strengths are numerous. The size of our residency program is just right to provide a balanced blend of personalized educational attention and substantial peer interaction. The size of our hospital is ideal, balancing rich patient care experiences with access to a full range of services including our new open-heart surgical unit. The patient population is socially and economically diverse, spanning urban to rural landscapes and representing numerous different cultures. The backbone of the residency is the faculty who are dedicated to ensuring a rich educational environment for the residents. The strong academic support of the Penn State Department of Family and Community Medicine is remarkable.

The relationship between hospital and residency program should be a vitally important factor in your selection process. I am proud to say that the Good Samaritan Health System recognizes and embraces the many valuable contributions that our residency program brings to this community.

If you wish to immerse yourself in a challenging and rewarding environment, I encourage you to visit our program and experience our dedication to excellence in education and patient care.
